Natural Headache Remedies: Understanding Your
Headache
Most of us have at some point in our lives experienced the
irritation of a headache. There are many over-the-counter
prescriptions claiming to ease the hurting, and to be fair many
of them do. However it is not really necessary to use them when
you understand that there are natural cures out there that can
help to get rid of the pain. Obviously, if you suffer from
migraine, cluster or any other serious type of headache,
natural cures may not help. However, for a regular headache
that is caused by muscular contractions or vascular
irregularities it is essential information.
First of all you must try and identify what caused the headache
in the first place. A certain type of food may have triggered
it, and believe it or not this does happen. Red Wine, caffeine
and smoked cheese are just a few of the foods that can do this.
Perhaps it was something in the atmosphere such as cigarette
smoke or a strong scent. Or it may have happened because of
something that you were actually doing such as looking at a
flickering computer screen. Once you have identified the cause,
you can take a not of it and try to avoid it as much as
possible in the future.
Does any of this tell you how to cure it? No, but the advice
that is next will. First of all, you can try having a bath. The
hot water helps to release contracted muscles, and generally
lets the whole body relax. Exercise is also a great way to get
rid of the pain, for example; a brisk walk gets the circulation
going again, and the fresh air can ease the pain of a
headache.
Many headaches are caused by dehydration, which causes muscle
contraction (cramp). So make sure you drink plenty of water
every day. You should have some water at least six large
glasses per day. This will help to improve your general health
as well. You could try acupressure, acupuncture or aromatherapy
to get rid of your headache too. These natural methods can take
away any painful pressure in the head and are surprisingly
effective.
Different methods work for different people so you will have to
experiment to find out which remedies work in the best way for
you. Hopefully one or more of them will provide you with fast
headache pain relief. Remember though, if your headaches become
regular and/or are very painful, it is best for you to go and
see your doctor as soon as possible. In this case, your
headache may be due to a major illness.
